There are various resources provided by every state to their senior population that are aimed at their support and betterment. Here’s a brief look at the conventional state resources that are usually offered:

1. Area Agencies on Aging (AAA)

This local organization provides a wide range of services and support for seniors such as:

    • Information and referral services

    • Meal programs

    • Transportation assistance

    • Home care services

    • Legal assistance

2. State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP)

They consist of a free Medicare counseling and advocacy program in which people answer questions and address concerns.

3. Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP)

SCSEP is a federally funded organization offering job training and placement services for seniors aged 55 and older with low-incomes.

4. Adult Protective Services

This institution inspects the complaints of elder abuse, neglect, or exploitation and provides victims with a secure environment.

5. State Pharmaceutical Assistance Programs

Most states provide these to cover the prescription drug costs that Medicare Part D does not.

6. Senior Housing Programs

Local municipalities are often the source of affordable senior housing or specific programs for seniors.

7. Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program

This organization defends the welfare of residents in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and other adult care facilities.

8. Senior Legal Services

Many states also provide free or low-cost legal help for seniors for the issues such as estate planning, consumer defense, and healthcare directive.

9. State Parks and Recreation

There are a number of states that offer free or discounted access to their parks and recreational facilities to seniors.

10. Property Tax Relief Programs

Some states encourage property tax exemption and deferrals to homeowners of higher ages.

All senior citizens or those who are responsible for them need to be well-informed about the resources in their location which they can obtain by either contacting the Department of Aging of their state or visiting the state government website for more information. Be aware that the provision of resources and the qualifications for the availability of these resources will be different depending on the state.
