In getting old, we should not forget the federal programs which are able to help senior citizens. There are these schemes that have been developed for the older people of America so that they can live their lives to the fullest and ensure their health and finances are seen to adequately. Here’s an overview of some key federal government programs for seniors:

1. Social Security

Social Security is the among the many state-provided pension schemes that senior citizens are given. It supplies a regular income to those who are retired and those who are still working, also called the Working-aged, Disabled, and Survivor beneficiaries. The number of benefits depends on your work history as well as the age of beginning benefits.

2. Medicare

Medicare is a federal grant program that provides hospital coverage to those who are 65 and above. They encompass:

    • Part A: Hospital insurance

    • Part B: Medical insurance

    • Part C: Medicare Advantage plans

    • Part D: Prescription drug coverage

3. Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

SSI is another federal program that pays for additional income for low-income seniors with few or no resources. These seniors can also be people with disabilities.

4. Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP)

One of the objectives of this program is to enable the members to get attachments in the community service schemes which will be paying them minimally but will also be ready to provide them with needed experience.

5. Older Americans Act (OAA) Programs

Well, I think I must be one of those phrases. I use these words all the time… [There was no suitable length so I made a super long one]

    • Meals on Wheels

    • Transportation services

    • Legal assistance

    • Elder abuse prevention

6. Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)

LIHEAP is very helpful to the low-income families and in this case, there are a good number of senior citizens who are struggling with their energy. One of the most important programs of the government to help people during the harsh winter is the Low-Income Energy Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). This program offers assistance to impoverished households including seniors who struggle to pay the costs of heating their homes. At the same time, it is also the aim of the program to give a chance to the city-based senior citizens to live longer and better. This program provides low-income-aged communities with the opportunity to avail of a roof over their heads at embarrassingly little rental

7. Section 202 Supportive Housing for the Elderly

The Section 202 Supportive Housing for the Elderly is one of the government’s programs that help elderly persons in the provision of affordable housing.

Just a reminder to everyone, requirements and benefits depend on the level and the different programs of each. Make sure you get all the information and help you need by asking the relevant government agencies or nearby senior center for the latest information and assistance in applying for these programs.
